Black Veil Brides frontman Andy Biersack recently shared his perspective on artistic authenticity in rock music. He cautioned bands against creating music solely to please their fanbase. His comments were featured in an interview with 107.7 The Bone.
Biersack discussed how Black Veil Brides approaches their creative process and the relationship between artistic vision and fan expectations.
“Our fans are pretty cool. I think the backlash comes from everyone who isn’t a fan of ours,” Biersack said. “Like we’re a very isolating band in that way. I don’t know that we’re necessarily cognizant of it or considering anything other than what we want to make.”
He emphasized the importance of staying true to the band’s artistic vision rather than trying to predict what fans might want.
“And sometimes the fans love those records that we decided we wanted to make and sometimes they don’t,” he continued. “But one thing I hope that our fans can take away from what we do is that we’re making what we want to make, not what we think they want to hear.”
Biersack warned against the pitfalls of creating music based on perceived audience expectations.
“I think the foolish mistake that a lot of bands make is they go, ‘Oh, this is what people want right now.’ And then they make a record that they think their fans are going to like, but people aren’t stupid,” he explained. “You can tell when something is disingenuous. And so authentic.”
The singer concluded by reaffirming the band’s commitment to creative freedom.
“The goal for us has always been if we want to make a concept rock opera record, we’re going to make it,” he said. “And if people like it, that’s great.”
Biersack’s philosophy of artistic authenticity is not just talk. The band continues to demonstrate this commitment through their ongoing creative endeavors and willingness to take risks.
The band’s official website revealed that Black Veil Brides is currently working on a new studio album as of 2025. Updates and photos from recording sessions have been shared publicly. This suggests they remain focused on creating new music rather than resting on past success. This aligns with Biersack’s emphasis on artistic growth and authenticity.
The band’s commitment to innovation extends to their touring choices as well. Black Veil Brides’ official announcements confirmed that in 2025 they embarked on a notable North American tour with BABYMETAL. This marked the first collaboration between these two influential bands. This tour highlights their willingness to innovate and collaborate across genres. It reinforces themes of authenticity through creative risks and maintaining relevance in the modern rock scene.
Black Veil Brides remains actively engaged with their fanbase throughout 2025. Setlist.fm reported that the band is actively touring throughout 2025. Their schedule includes appearances at major festivals such as Aftershock Festival in October 2025, Louder Than Life in September 2025, Vans Warped Tour 30 Years in July 2025, and the We Missed Ourselves Fest in Mexico City in October 2025. Their setlists feature a mix of classic hits and newer songs like “Hallelujah” and “Bleeders.” This indicates they continue to evolve musically while honoring their roots.
This balance between artistic integrity and fan engagement demonstrates how Black Veil Brides has managed to maintain a dedicated following while staying true to their creative vision. The band’s approach serves as a practical example of the philosophy Biersack articulated in his recent comments about authentic music-making.
