Nuno Bettencourt, the renowned guitarist from Extreme, has announced the launch of his own guitar company. He shared the exciting news with fans through a video posted on Instagram.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for the guitarist. He explained his motivation for starting the new venture after decades with his previous guitar partner.
“I have some great news I wanted to share with you. I’m super excited to announce that today, this second, right now as we speak, I’m launching my own guitar company. That is correct. This is something I wanted to do for a long, long time,” Bettencourt said.
The guitarist reflected on his previous partnership while explaining the transition to his new company.
“Had a great run with Washburn for 35 years I believe, which is pretty insane. I love Washburn, but it was just time for me to do this. I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time,” he continued.
Bettencourt emphasized his desire to build a closer relationship with his customers through the new company.
“I wanted to be able to deal directly with you all guitar players and fans who purchased any of my guitars. I wanted to build this community now and be able to engage with you on a deeper and closer level, which is going to be really fun for me,” he added.
The announcement received positive responses from fellow musicians. John5, Alex Skolnick, Michael Anthony, and Tom Morello all offered congratulations in the comments.
This move represents a major shift for Bettencourt. He has been synonymous with Washburn guitars throughout his career, particularly through his signature N4 model that became iconic in the rock guitar world.
Premier Guitar reported that the Nuno Guitars debut lineup introduces two new flagship electric models called Dark Horse and White Stallion. These instruments represent Bettencourt’s vision for his new company. The guitarist promised they are “true workhorses built with the same passion I’ve put into every note I’ve ever played.”
The transition also ensures continuity for longtime fans of Bettencourt’s signature instruments. Music Radar confirmed that the iconic N4 model will continue under the Nuno Guitars brand. This decision bridges his legacy into this new venture and addresses concerns from players who have relied on the N4’s distinctive design and sound for decades.
“Once you own a Nuno guitar, you are forever a part of my family. LET’S RIDE!” Bettencourt declared. He emphasized the community-focused approach that will define his new company.
98 KUPD noted that fans can expect pre-orders for the new models to begin soon. Players can sign up for updates on the company’s official website. This direct-to-consumer approach aligns with Bettencourt’s stated goal of building closer relationships with guitar players and creating a more engaged community around his instruments.
