KISS rocker Gene Simmons was hospitalized following a car accident in Malibu on Tuesday, October 7. People Magazine reported the incident.
A spokesperson for the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station provided details about the incident. It occurred just before 1 p.m. when Simmons’ vehicle struck a parked vehicle.
His wife, Shannon Simmons, spoke with NBC4 Los Angeles and confirmed that the musician is now recovering at home. She noted that doctors had recently changed his medication and advised him to drink more water, which he’s not particularly fond of.
Following the accident, Simmons addressed the situation on his Twitter account. “Thanks, everybody, for the kind wishes. I’m completely fine,” he said. “I had a slight fender bender. It happens. Especially to those of us were horrible drivers. And that’s me. All is well.”
The accident occurred when the 76-year-old musician’s SUV careened across several lanes of traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway before striking the parked vehicle. NBC4 Los Angeles revealed that Simmons told first responders that he passed out or fainted prior to the collision. Authorities confirmed this at the scene.
Shannon Tweed later clarified that her husband is “doing just fine.” She attributed the episode to a recent change in his medication. The connection between the medication adjustment and his fainting episode appears to be the primary factor in the incident, as NBC4 Los Angeles noted. Simmons was transported to the hospital as a precaution but was released shortly afterward with no serious injuries reported.
The timing of the accident is particularly notable as Gene Simmons and KISS have been preparing for their upcoming “Kiss Army Storm’s Vegas” concert series. NBC4 Los Angeles detailed that the three-day event in Las Vegas will celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary. It marks the first time KISS will reunite on stage since officially retiring from touring in 2023. The concerts are scheduled to take place next month.
There is currently no indication that the accident will affect these plans. The artist’s representatives and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have not responded to media inquiries at this time. No statements from Simmons’s KISS bandmates, including Paul Stanley, have been released regarding the incident.
The rocker appears to be in good spirits despite the incident and is continuing his recovery at home.
