Home » “Just look at his eyes…” — Blake Shelton once loved Miranda Lambert so quietly, so deeply, that fans still feel it today. She didn’t need to flaunt it. Her love was soft, steady—told through shy smiles and silent glances, never loud or theatrical. Back then, it was just the music and the marriage. But now, with Gwen Stefani’s every public gesture feeling more like performance than partnership, some are starting to wonder: Was Miranda the muse all along? And when Blake paused mid-show to whisper, “This one… is for her,” was he singing for a woman beside him—or one he never truly let go?

Country music fans are still coming to terms with the announcement that one of country music’s most beloved couples, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, have ended their marriage. Sadly, their split likely means the end of some truly beautiful music.

Throughout their decade-long relationship, the two artists often joined each other during performances, creating some incredible moments, as you can see in the video above. The couple met on stage, while performing “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” for CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets TV special, back when Shelton still had a mullet and Lambert had just released her freshman album, Kerosene.

When the two officially began dating, their romance often played out often in their music: Lambert sang with Shelton on “Home,” from his 2007 Pure BS album, while Lambert landed at the top of the charts with “The House That Built Me,” which she found because her then-boyfriend was considering recording it for himself.

They also frequently joined each other on stage, singing songs like “Play That Funky Music,” “More Like Her,” “Sure Be Cool If You Did,” and “Over You,” the latter of which Lambert and Shelton wrote together about the death of Shelton’s brother. They also sang “America the Beautiful” together at Super Bowl XLVI in 2012.

In March, the two performed together at two stops on Lambert’s 2015 Certified Platinum Tour. Shelton joined Lambert on stage for “God Gave Me You,” saying, “I wanted to do this song tonight because Miranda is the reason I recorded this song.”

Shelton and Lambert were officially divorced on July 20, the same day that the news of their separation broke.

“This is not the future we envisioned,” Shelton and Lambert’s representatives say in a statement. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
