by During an intimate conversation hosted by Spotify, Bruce Springsteen revealed why he wanted Jeremy Allen White to play his likeness in the upcoming biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere.
The Boss and The Bear actor have worked closely on the set of the upcoming picture, which details the journey Springsteen undertook to make his 1982 album, Nebraska.
When the conversation turned to White’s involvement in the huge project, Springsteen revealed why he believed the 34-year-old actor to be the best fit for the role. At the event attended by Far Out, he began, “I’ve seen The Bear and I watched how the camera read his internal life, which was very rich.”
Springsteen continued, “I knew that was the kind of character we were going to need: someone who would understand the psychological underpinnings of the character. He just had that.”
The ‘Born in the USA’ singer then drew a key parallel between White’s career and his own, sharing, “If you’ve seen him on film, it’s a cliche, but he is a rockstar. You can’t fake that. Either you’ve got that, or you don’t. He just had it, the swagger and the inner confidence to bring that out on film.”
In another recent joint interview alongside White on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Springsteen praised the sheer effort that White put in to telling his story, saying, “He approached the part really in his own way, and I think one of the choices he made was it is not imitated, he caught the psychological aspect of the character and it’s a performance that comes from the inside out.”
The film also includes Jeremy Strong, Jon Landau, Paul Walter Hauser, Mike Batlan, and Stephen Graham, who plays Springsteen’s father. The singer detailed how he would often hang around the set and experience his life being re-told, which, to him, was a sort of “miracle”‘.
Bruce Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is set for release on October 24th.
