Jonathan Cain Publicly Responds to Neal Schon’s Claims About Leaving Journey

Jonathan Cain’s representative has addressed recent claims about the keyboardist’s departure from Journey. The representative clarified his status with the band in a statement to Blabbermouth.

The statement was issued in response to Neal Schon’s social media announcement suggesting Cain was leaving the band.

“Jonathan Cain remains an active member of Journey, and any reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate,” the spokesperson said. “He is fully dedicated to touring with the band over the next couple of years and has only expressed plans to retire at a later time.”

The clarification came after Schon posted on Twitter about Cain’s supposed farewell.

“Jonathan Cain announced his farewell to Journey tonight,” Schon wrote. “I’m nowhere near done! Journey has so much more life ahead! I’m sure we will have a great tour!”

The confusion surrounding Cain’s status reflects ongoing tensions between the two longtime bandmates. However, their relationship has reportedly improved recently.

Consequence reported that Schon later confirmed Cain plans to retire at the end of 2026 or 2027. He emphasized they will have a great couple of years ahead with the band. This timeline aligns with rumors of a farewell tour scheduled for 2026-27.

The two musicians have experienced significant tensions in recent months, including legal disputes over band finances. Ultimate Classic Rock noted that Cain filed and won a lawsuit against Schon earlier in 2025 over disagreements about excessive spending on hotels and private jets that strained the band’s budget.

Despite these past conflicts, recent interviews suggest their relationship has improved. Metal Wani revealed that Schon described positive reconnection and better communication with Cain for the first time in years following a 2025 band hiatus.

Cain’s planned retirement after the upcoming tour cycle is reportedly motivated by his desire to focus on his ministry work. For now, he remains committed to touring with Journey through 2026-27. Schon is the only remaining classic member from the band’s original 1970s and 1980s era.
