Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil recently opened up about his health struggles, revealing he has suffered multiple strokes that have left permanent scars on his brain, as shared on Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk.
The rock vocalist discussed how he discovered his condition and the extent of the neurological damage he has experienced.
“I had four strokes throughout the years,” Neil said. “Two of ’em I didn’t even know I had. One of ’em was a mini stroke that happened and I just lost feeling in my hand. And that was it. And I got over that pretty quickly. But then this last one, it was a big one.”
Neil went on to explain the medical findings that revealed the full scope of his condition.
“Because they could see it in your brain. It’s scarred right around the same spot,” he continued. “I had four scars in my brain, and the neurologist said those are all strokes. I can’t remember any other time I felt weird or something. It must have happened and I got over it. I didn’t even know it.”
The revelation highlights the often silent nature of strokes and their lasting impact on brain tissue.
Neil’s health crisis reached its peak during the holiday season. This marked a turning point in his battle with stroke-related complications.
Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Neil’s most recent stroke occurred shortly after Christmas 2024, when he woke up unable to move his left side. The blood clot causing the stroke originated in his left leg and traveled to his brain. This created a life-threatening situation that required immediate medical intervention.
The recovery process proved to be grueling for the 63-year-old rocker. Neil underwent months of intense rehabilitation during which he had to relearn basic motor functions. He progressed from being confined to a wheelchair to eventually using a cane as he worked to regain his mobility and independence.
These serious health complications had significant repercussions for Mötley Crüe’s professional commitments. American Songwriter noted that the band was forced to implement a six-month delay in their Las Vegas residency and cancel various scheduled shows. This demonstrated the severity of Neil’s condition and the extensive recovery time required.
The impact extended beyond just postponed dates, as USA Today documented. The band had to carefully navigate Neil’s return to performing while ensuring his health remained the top priority throughout the challenging recovery process.
