The band announced that Lindberg passed away following complications from his cancer treatment.
“Tomas passed away this morning following complications related to his ongoing cancer treatment,” the band stated. “Despite intensive medical efforts, his life could not be saved.”
The statement continued with a tribute to the late vocalist.
“Tomas – you were an inspiration to us all,” they said. “A true friend, both compassionate and sympathetic. You will always be remembered for your generosity and your creative spirit. You will be eternally missed. Forever in our hearts.”
Lindberg’s death marks the end of an era for one of extreme metal’s most influential figures. His impact on the genre extends far beyond his role as At The Gates’ frontman.
