Watch Dua Lipa cover Death Cab for Cutie with Ben Gibbard

Dua Lipa invited Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie to join her on stage in Seattle to cover their hit, ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’.

Rounding out the last of the North American leg of her Radical Optimism tour, the musician had a treat in store for Seattle. During her show on October 16th, she invited a special guest to join her.

The London-based singer has been surprising audiences throughout the tour with special guests who pay homage to local musical icons in the cities she stops in. At the Climate Pledge Arena, she reflected on the tradition, sharing, “Everything we’ve done so far, we’ve touched on so many different genres and artists.”

On the second Seattle night, she changed her approach. “I thought tonight I’d do something by an indie legend,” she shared with the crowd.

She continued, “I love this song for so many reasons. I feel like it just really defines what love is in such a pure form of wanting to follow somebody until the very end. This song really moves me, and I feel very, very lucky because this indie legend happens to be here tonight and he’s going to come up and perform with me. Seattle, please join me in welcoming Seattle’s very own Ben Gibbard.”

The ‘One Kiss’ singer was joined by Gibbard and his guitar, and her band cleared the stage to let their acoustic rendition shine.

Gibbard marks another legend in a long list of icons who have been brought into the fold. Key moments on the tour have seen Billie Joe Armstrong join Dua Lipa in San Francisco, Chaka Khan in Chicago, Jamiroquai in London, and No Doubt’s frontwoman, Gwen Stefani, in Los Angeles.

Next for Dua is the South American leg of her tour, kicking off on November 7th in Buenos Aires, Argentina. That phase of the tour will finish with three nights at Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros at the beginning of December.
