Tobias Forge Issues an Apology to Fans After Canceling Ghost Show Last Minute

Tobias Forge recently addressed fans following the last-minute cancellation of Ghost’s September 23 concert. He offered an apology in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).

The apology came after Forge had to cancel the show due to food poisoning. The band returned to perform their next scheduled concert.

“I feel better tonight. I’m so sorry about last night,” Forge said. “At the end of the day, I am just a gringo [Latin American term for ‘outsider’], coming here with my army, asking for too much.”

The frontman used humor to address his illness. He referenced a colloquial term for traveler’s digestive issues.

“So no wonder I got hit by the curse of Montezuma [a colloquial term for traveller’s diarrhoea]!” he continued.

The band had previously announced the cancellation with deep regret. They stated that Forge’s food poisoning made it impossible to perform while confirming that the September 24 and 25 concerts would proceed as planned.

The Mexico City incident highlights the challenges touring bands face when performing internationally. Health issues can derail carefully planned concert schedules.

Metal Injection reported that the illness forced Ghost to cancel the first of their three scheduled Mexico City shows. This made it impossible for them to perform that night. The cancellation came as a significant disappointment to fans who had been eagerly awaiting the Swedish metal band’s performance in the Mexican capital.

Music MXdwn noted that the band’s management emphasized the genuine nature of Forge’s illness. They urged fans to avoid speculation about the cancellation. The statement reinforced that the health issue was unavoidable and required immediate attention. This prevented any possibility of the show proceeding as scheduled.

The incident also sparked discussions within the Ghost fan community about supporting artists during health emergencies. Fan discussions on social media revealed that supporters were encouraged to show understanding rather than criticism toward Forge’s situation. This emphasized that health issues can affect anyone regardless of their profession.

Brave Words confirmed that despite the setback, Ghost remained committed to their remaining Mexico City dates. This demonstrated the band’s dedication to their fans and tour obligations. The successful continuation of the tour after Forge’s recovery showed the resilience both of the performer and the band’s commitment to their audience.
