Sinners cast set to receive Gotham Awards ensemble tribute

The cast of Ryan Coogler‘s Sinners are set to receive the Ensemble Tribute at the 35th annual Gotham Film Awards.

The full ensemble will receive the honour. This includes actors Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, Buddy Guy, Li Jun Li, Delroy Lindo and more.

The Gotham Film and Media Institute’s Executive Director, Jeffrey Sharp, has praised the film, writing, “Led by Michael B. Jordan’s magnificent dual roles, the remarkable ensemble cast of Sinners gives bracing, inspired performances that create one of the great cinematic experiences of the year.”

He went on to add, “Each talented member of this group brings a rich intensity and authenticity throughout the film’s unique twists and turns. We’re thrilled that the brilliant Ryan Coogler will present the Ensemble Tribute to Michael and the extraordinary cast at this year’s Gotham Film Awards.”

Praising the summer box office hit, Far Out wrote, “Sinners is a studio project that exists completely on its own terms, both old and new. Throughout the film Coogler is informed by the past but inspired by the future. He blends history both real and imagined to create a phantasmagorical masterpiece that both works in favour of the studio system while holding a finger in protest for the generations of stories they have silently stolen, sucking the community dry.”

The Gotham Vanguard Tribute will go to Guillermo Del Toro’s Netflix adaptation of Frankenstein, which includes Jacob Elordi in the titular role.

Released on April 18th, Sinners grossed approximately $367million worldwide at the box office. It follows the story of twin brothers, both played by Jordan, who return to their hometown in the 1932 Mississippi Delta. They intend to open a juke joint, but their plans are disrupted by a supernatural evil.

Beginning in 2005, the Esemble Tribute has recognised talents such as Moonlight, The Hurt Locker, Babel, Winter’s Bone, The Favourite, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Fire Island, and most recently, The Piano Lesson.
