Shots Fired: Neal Schon Now Exposes Jonathan Cain’s Farewell Announcement After He Denied It

Neal Schon has shared video evidence of Jonathan Cain announcing his departure from Journey, following a recent denial from Cain’s spokesperson. The Journey guitarist posted a clip from Cain’s recent interview on X (formerly Twitter).

In the interview, Cain discussed his upcoming plans and confirmed his intention to leave the band after their next tour.

“I’m coming with an EP at the end of the year,” Cain said. “Then, of course, we go on the Journey tour in 2026 – on our farewell Journey tour. So, I’ll be saying goodbye to that.”

Schon added his own commentary to the video clip. He clarified Cain’s timeline and his own plans for the band’s future.

“Jon is committed to playing 26/27 then he says his ministry is calling,” Schon commented. “Of course I’ll continue Journey music / plus.”

This development comes just one day after Schon initially announced Cain’s departure. Cain’s spokesperson subsequently denied the claims and stated that Cain remains an active member of Journey.

The ministry work Cain referenced relates to his faith-based music career, which he has actively pursued since 2016. SF Chronicle reported that Cain recently previewed a new single titled “No One Else,” a tribute to the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, who was assassinated in September 2025. Cain emphasized his desire to honor Kirk’s Christian nationalist movement and faith-based activism.

The public dispute between Schon and Cain is not new to Journey fans. Classic Rock 107.7 noted that the two musicians have clashed over band finances and management in recent years. Cain previously accused Schon of overspending on extravagant expenses, such as hotels and private jets. He claimed these expenses negatively impacted the band’s ability to pay staff.

The financial tensions are complicated by the fact that both Schon and Cain own equal shares of the band’s assets, with each holding 50% ownership. This equal power structure has created a longstanding business struggle that underlies their musical partnership. It contributes to the ongoing discord about roles and the band’s future direction.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Cain’s status, Schon has assured fans that Journey will continue. SF Chronicle revealed that Schon stated Journey is “nowhere near done” and that the band plans to continue touring for at least a couple more years. He expressed confidence that the band will have a great tour ahead. Specific details and dates for the 2026-2027 farewell tour have not yet been officially announced.
