Sharon Osbourne has publicly backed a campaign to rename Birmingham Airport after her husband, the legendary rock star Ozzy Osbourne, the BBC reported.
Podcaster and comedian Dan Hudson launched the campaign. It has been gaining momentum with Sharon’s endorsement. She expressed her enthusiasm for the proposal in a recent statement.
“It would be amazing. The world loved Ozzy. It’s just a dream right now, but sometimes dreams come true,” Sharon Osbourne said.
Dan Hudson, who initiated the campaign, also commented on the growing support for the idea.
“It’s amazing to see that Sharon is backing the idea,” he said. “The campaign is growing and growing and there’s even more momentum now with Sharon on board.”
The campaign reflects a grassroots effort to honor one of Birmingham’s most famous sons. A petition to rename Birmingham Airport as “Ozzy Osbourne International” was launched on July 22, 2025, Change.org noted. Fans who see the rock legend as both a musical innovator and a beloved local figure drove the petition.
Ozzy Osbourne was born in Birmingham, England. He rose to international fame as the lead singer of Black Sabbath, a pioneering heavy metal band formed in Birmingham in 1968. The city played a central role in both his early life and career, Change.org stated. Black Sabbath’s formative years and iconic sound were deeply rooted in the industrial atmosphere of Birmingham during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
If successful, Birmingham Airport would join a rare group of airports named after musicians. John Lennon Airport in Liverpool, UK, is named after the Beatles legend. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport honors the jazz icon. Airports named after rock musicians remain particularly uncommon. This makes the proposed “Ozzy Osbourne International” a potentially unique tribute.
The proposal to rename the airport “Ozzy Osbourne International” continues to gather public attention as supporters rally behind the Birmingham-born rock icon.
