Sammy Hagar Says He’s Retired from Music — In a Way

Sammy Hagar recently shared his unique perspective on retirement. He revealed that his Las Vegas residency represents his version of stepping back from the road, as reported in an interview with Loudwire.

The rock veteran addressed questions about when he plans to retire from music. He explained that his Vegas shows are already his retirement plan.

“You know, people say, how long before you retire. And I keep telling everybody: Vegas is retirement. We’re retiring to Vegas, okay?” Hagar said.

He elaborated on the practical benefits of a Vegas residency for aging musicians.

“We’ll go out and do some shows here and there, but it really is a way to do it longer. Anyone can sing longer there. A drummer can play longer. His body will last longer because he gets a good night’s sleep, good food, you don’t have to travel, just rest all day,” he continued.

Hagar’s philosophy appears to be working well in practice. His Las Vegas residency has become a significant chapter in his career.

The Rock Revival reported that his “Best of All Worlds” residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas has been highly successful and is continuing with new dates into 2026. After an initial successful run, Hagar announced returning shows starting in March 2026. He called these residency shows “some of the best shows I’ve done in my life.”

“My idea of retirement! Beats golf any day,” Hagar said about the residency, reinforcing his unconventional approach to winding down from extensive touring.

The residency features an impressive lineup of musicians. The Rock Revival noted that his Vegas residency band includes former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Kenny Aronoff. Jason Bonham, who performed on drums during summer 2024 dates, will not be returning for future shows. This makes Aronoff the primary drummer moving forward.

The significance of this residency phase is further highlighted by a recent release. Red Rocker confirmed that Hagar released a live album in October 2025 titled “Sammy & The Best of All Worlds Band – ‘The Residency’ Live Album.” The album captures the energy and setlist of these Vegas shows. This release underscores the residency’s importance in Hagar’s current career phase.

The approach allows Hagar to continue performing at a high level while maintaining a more sustainable lifestyle than traditional touring demands. It proves that retirement doesn’t have to mean stepping away from the stage entirely.
