Roger Waters has made controversial statements about Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. This follows recent backlash over his comments about Ozzy Osbourne, as reported on The Katie Halper Show.
Waters shared his views on Yorke. He revealed past correspondence between the two musicians that apparently did not go well.
“[Thom Yorke] is a timid little bloke. I think he’s unpleasant company,” Waters said. “I wrote him many letters you know. Yes, he did [respond]. He did respond. It’s all going in my memoir.”
Waters continued to describe the nature of Yorke’s response.
“He got very very snarky and he was trying to be fun[ny],” he added.
These remarks come just weeks after Waters faced criticism for comments about Ozzy Osbourne. In those comments, he mistakenly claimed the Black Sabbath frontman had died and dismissed his musical legacy. Waters stated he had “no interest in biting the heads of chickens or whatever they do” and that he “couldn’t care less” about Black Sabbath.
The tension between Waters and Yorke is not new. It has deep roots in their political disagreements over the years.
Louder Sound reported that the dispute began in 2017 when Waters publicly criticized Radiohead for performing in Israel. This was seen as a rejection of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Yorke responded at the time by calling Waters’ campaign “patronising in the extreme.”
Waters has continued to criticize Yorke over the years. He referred to him as “damaged” and “insecure,” suggesting that Yorke is unable to engage in meaningful conversations about the issue, as Louder Sound noted. The Pink Floyd co-founder has positioned himself as a vocal critic of musicians based on their political stances.
Waters’ recent comments about Ozzy Osbourne are part of a broader pattern of public criticism aimed at various musicians. Noise11 revealed that Waters has also targeted other figures like Elton John and Steven Tyler. He has accused them of being part of a “corrupted music industry.”
The backlash against Waters has been intense. Many have characterized his actions as confrontational and divisive. Jack Osbourne, Ozzy’s son, has also responded to Waters’ criticism. This adds to the growing controversy surrounding the Pink Floyd co-founder’s recent statements.
