Nikki Sixx recently addressed questions about the future of his band Sixx:A.M., providing clarity on the group’s plans in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The statement came in response to a fan’s direct question about whether the band would be releasing new material.
When asked by a fan, “Nikki, will Sixx:A.M. release a new album? You three are geniuses!” Sixx provided a straightforward response.
“No plans right now,” Sixx said.
The Mötley Crüe bassist then elaborated on his future projects beyond the band’s current commitments.
“We have a lot of other projects me and my wife are developing,” he continued. “I also have an Animation company and other fun creative things that involve music as well. More to be revealed.”
Mötley Crüe prepares to conclude their Vegas residency shows. Sixx indicated his focus will shift to various creative ventures outside of traditional touring.
Sixx’s announcement marks a significant pause for a band that has maintained an active presence in the rock scene for nearly two decades. The decision reflects his broader creative evolution beyond traditional band formats.
Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Sixx:A.M. originally began as a passion project for Sixx, intended as a soundtrack companion to his New York Times bestselling memoir, The Heroin Diaries. The band unexpectedly gained major success with the single “Life Is Beautiful,” which reached the Top 5 at rock radio. This sparked a string of hits across five albums before going on hiatus in 2021.
Last.fm documented that the band was formed in 2007 in Los Angeles with vocalist James Michael and guitarist DJ Ashba, with the band name blending the members’ last names. The group has been known for deeply personal, autobiographical themes tied closely to Sixx’s life experiences.
The band’s discography includes notable releases such as The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack (2007), This Is Gonna Hurt (2011), and Modern Vintage (2014), as noted by Wikipedia. These albums showcased the band’s ability to blend hard rock with introspective lyrics, establishing them as more than just a side project.
Sixx’s current focus on animation and other creative ventures represents a natural progression for an artist who has consistently pushed beyond traditional rock boundaries. His mention of projects with his wife suggests a more collaborative approach to his future creative endeavors, moving away from the band-centric model that defined much of his career.
