New Foo Fighters drummer Ilan Rubin reflected on his first tour with the band, sharing his thoughts in a post on Instagram.
Rubin expressed his gratitude for the experience and praised the audiences throughout the tour, which concluded with a show in Osaka.
“First Foo Fighters tour was absolutely fantastic! Every audience was incredible and such a pleasure to perform for,” Rubin said. “This is from the last show in Osaka. Jet lag is alive and well.”
The message accompanied a video from the final performance, marking the end of Rubin’s debut tour as the band’s new drummer.
Rubin’s journey to Foo Fighters came through an unusual drummer swap in mid-2025. Modern Drummer reported that the band parted ways with Josh Freese in May 2025. Rubin moved from Nine Inch Nails to Foo Fighters while Freese returned to Nine Inch Nails.
The Asian tour included multiple stops in Japan, with performances in Tokyo on October 8 before the final show at the Glion Arena in Osaka. Digital Noise Mag noted that the tour showcased Rubin’s versatility. Video clips highlighted him not only drumming but also singing during live performances of songs like “Have It All.”
Rubin brings impressive credentials to his new role with Foo Fighters. Modern Drummer revealed that he made history as the youngest inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Nine Inch Nails in 2020 at age 32. He has been with that band since 2009.
The drummer is known for his technical skill and powerful performances. He has also collaborated with notable artists like Danny Elfman and played in Angels & Airwaves. His successful completion of the Asian tour marks a promising start to his tenure with Foo Fighters. The band is planning to continue their busy late-2025 schedule with upcoming dates in Mexico.
