Ilan Rubin recently joined Foo Fighters as their new drummer following the band’s split with Josh Freese. He has shared his thoughts after performing his first concert with the group. The statement was posted on Instagram.
Rubin expressed his excitement and gratitude following what he described as an incredible debut performance with the band.
“Last night with Foo Fighters could not have been a better time,” Rubin said. “After keeping my head down for a couple wild months and throwing myself into the material, that first show was such an incredible release of energy.”
The drummer also acknowledged the positive reception he has received from fans and the music community.
“I’ve been taken aback by all the positivity and support, and I just wanted to say thanks!” he continued. “Excited for all the volume and sweat that lies ahead.”
This marks a new chapter for Foo Fighters as they continue with their new lineup.
Rubin’s addition to Foo Fighters represents a significant moment in rock history. He brings together decades of experience with one of rock’s most celebrated acts. The drummer change also highlights the interconnected nature of the modern rock scene.
Loudwire reported that Rubin holds remarkable distinctions in rock history. He was the youngest musician ever to play a Woodstock stage at age 11. His career achievements continued when he became the youngest inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 as a member of Nine Inch Nails.
The personnel change between Foo Fighters and Nine Inch Nails created an interesting drummer swap scenario. Modern Drummer noted that Rubin replaced Josh Freese in Foo Fighters. Meanwhile, Freese rejoined Nine Inch Nails, effectively trading positions between the two major rock acts.
Rubin’s versatile drumming experience spans over a decade with notable acts beyond Nine Inch Nails. Hindustan Times highlighted that his resume includes work with Angels & Airwaves and Paramore. This demonstrates his adaptability across different rock subgenres.
The Foo Fighters are set to continue their momentum with Rubin behind the kit. Hindustan Times revealed that the band will start their fall tour with Rubin in October. They have scheduled performances in Jakarta, Singapore, and Mexico City.
