Mike Portnoy Responds to Feud Concerns After Dream Theater Cancel Tour

Mike Portnoy has addressed fan concerns following Dream Theater’s recent announcement to cancel their European and UK tour scheduled for 2026. The statement was shared on Dream Theater’s official Instagram.

The drummer clarified the reasoning behind the band’s decision and reassured fans about the band’s current status.

“Seeing a lot of concern and speculation…for the record: There’s absolutely no cause for alarm whatsoever,” Portnoy said. “Basically, it was a hard decision…but ‘the powers that be’ decided a 3rd run through EU would be overkill after going there 4 years in a row…and we felt it very important to be transparent with the fans that were promised/expecting a return in the spring.”

Portnoy emphasized that the band remains in good standing and continues to have a successful touring year.

“All is 100% awesome in the band and camp…nothing to be concerned about….honestly, the past year has been the biggest and best DT tour ever,” he continued. “We will still do our Asia/Oz tour Jan thru March…and there may still a little something after that as well.”

Dream Theater announced they would not return to Europe and the UK in 2026, citing multiple tours in the region over the previous four consecutive years. The band will continue with their planned Asia and Australia tour from January through March.

The cancellation comes during what has been a landmark year for the progressive metal pioneers. They have been celebrating their 40th anniversary with an extensive world tour.

The 40th Anniversary Tour has been among Dream Theater’s most significant to date. It received widespread acclaim for its scale, setlist, and stage production. Prog Report noted that the tour began in Europe in early 2025 and continued with a well-received North American leg that concluded in Uniondale, New York on October 25, 2025.

The return of drummer Mike Portnoy after a 13-year absence has been a major draw for the tour. It generated renewed excitement among fans and critics alike. Prog Report highlighted that North American shows have been sold out in major markets. The band played three-hour sets featuring dazzling light shows and received rapturous receptions from audiences.

Sonic Perspectives reported that the band’s technical prowess and emotional connection with the audience remain as strong as ever. Fans were particularly receptive to both classic tracks and new material from their 2025 album *Parasomnia*.

Industry observers suggest this tour could be the band’s most successful to date. It has shown unprecedented momentum and fan enthusiasm throughout the anniversary celebration. The decision to skip a third European run appears to be a strategic choice to avoid oversaturating the market after consecutive years of touring in the region.
