Lorna Shore guitarist Adam De Micco recently shared his controversial take on Guns N’ Roses’ iconic hit “Sweet Child O’ Mine” in an interview with Guitar World.
When asked about the band’s approach to their new album following the success of Pain Remains, De Micco explained how touring influenced his songwriting perspective.
“After touring Pain Remains, riffs or ideas I thought were cool didn’t land when we played them live,” De Micco said. “You realize a part is too complicated, or isn’t musical or digestible.”
The guitarist then shared an unexpected example that shaped his creative direction.
“I was at the gym once and heard Guns ‘n’ Roses. Sweet Child O’ Mine is a terrible song – I hate Axl’s voice and don’t even like Slash’s playing, but it stands the test of time,” he explained. “Nowadays music comes and goes in less than a year, yet there are bands from 30, 40 years ago, and people are still excited to hear it, and I’m like, ‘How?’”
De Micco clarified that this observation became his main inspiration for writing timeless music.
“That was my main inspiration – writing something timeless. I wanted to write a guitar lick that some kid wanted to learn. Crazy Train was mine and Andrew’s,” he continued.
De Micco’s philosophy on timeless songwriting has directly influenced the band’s latest creative output. Blabbermouth reported that Lorna Shore released their fifth studio album, “I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me,” on September 12, 2025, via Century Media Records. The album marks a strong evolution after Pain Remains. It features singles like “Oblivion,” “Unbreakable,” and “Prison of Flesh.”
The new album showcases a more mature and evolved sound that the band describes as a next-level version of what Lorna Shore represents. De Micco has been prominently involved in shaping the album’s guitar work. This reflects the band’s growth into more complex and dynamic compositions. His approach integrates brutal technicality with timeless songwriting, aiming to create music that resonates beyond just current trends and holds lasting appeal.
Metal Insider noted that the band continues to push boundaries in extreme metal while embracing a broader musical palette. The guitarist’s focus on creating memorable, enduring music demonstrates how even controversial opinions about classic rock can inspire fresh approaches to heavy music.
The band’s 2025 activities include a North American tour alongside The Black Dahlia Murder and Shadow of Intent, establishing Lorna Shore’s growing prominence in the metal scene. Wikipedia indicated that plans for a European tour in early 2026 further underline their expanding global reach and consistent momentum following the release of their latest album.
