Kyle Gass Makes First Public Move to Make Peace with Jack Black and Reunite Tenacious D

Kyle Gass recently posted a birthday message for his Tenacious D bandmate Jack Black. This sparked speculation about a potential reunion among fans, as reported on Instagram.

The simple birthday greeting has generated significant attention given the band’s current hiatus. The hiatus followed controversial comments made by Gass during a live performance.

“Happy Birthday Jables,” Gass said in his Instagram post.

Fans quickly responded to the post with enthusiasm about a possible reunion. One Tenacious D fan commented that “True bros will never be apart for long. The D will be back.” Another fan noted Jack Black’s engagement with the post, writing “Jables liked the video! There’s still hope! The D will rise again!” Additional comments suggested this could be “a perfect time to get the band back together.”

Jack Black had previously decided to put Tenacious D on hiatus after Gass made certain statements during a live performance. The fact that Black liked Gass’s birthday post has further fueled speculation about a potential reconciliation between the longtime collaborators.

The birthday message comes at a time when the band has shown subtle signs of renewed activity. However, a full reunion remains uncertain.

AXS TV reported that Tenacious D recently surprised fans by contributing a cover of REO Speedwagon’s “Keep on Loving You” to a charity album benefiting wildfire victims in Los Angeles. This marked their first new music release since the hiatus. It suggested a slow return to collaboration, although it was limited to this benevolent cause.

The duo has also maintained some level of professional activity despite their personal tensions. Rewind STL noted that the band is set to release The Complete Masterworks Vol. 3 on October 3, 2025, described as their most comprehensive release to date. This upcoming release hints at renewed activity from the duo and suggests they have been working on archival material.

However, fans should temper their expectations for an immediate full reunion. Jack Black himself has indicated that the timing isn’t right for a complete return to their partnership.

“It’s not time yet,” Black stated regarding a full Tenacious D reunion, as documented by YouTube. This keeps hopes cautious among the band’s dedicated fanbase.

Despite these measured expectations, the public birthday greeting and Black’s positive response to it represent the most encouraging signs of reconciliation between the longtime collaborators since their hiatus began.
