Kenny Hickey Reveals the Financial Condition for Potential Peter Steele Tribute Show

Type O Negative guitarist and co-lead vocalist Kenny Hickey recently discussed the possibility of a Peter Steele tribute show. He revealed that financial considerations play a significant role in the decision in an interview with Loaded Radio.

Hickey acknowledged that there has been ongoing discussion about organizing a tribute show for the late Type O Negative frontman. Multiple parties have expressed interest in the project.

“There has (been talk about it), yes. A lot of people approaching us, you know? There’s money in it,” Hickey said. “The more the value goes up, the more they’re gonna hound us.”

The guitarist also addressed the uncertainty surrounding the band’s future plans and what factors might influence their decision.

“We don’t know what’s gonna happen. Josh is about to retire soon. We don’t know what’s gonna happen,” he continued. “It all depends on how much money it’s worth and how much is waved.”

The comments suggest that interest in a Peter Steele tribute remains high. The band members are weighing various factors before committing to such an event.

Hickey’s remarks reflect the enduring legacy of Peter Steele and Type O Negative. Their influence on the metal community continues to resonate more than a decade after Steele’s passing.

Louder Sound reported that Type O Negative was formed in 1989 by Peter Steele after his previous band Carnivore disbanded. The band originally went by the names Repulsion and Sub-Zero before settling on Type O Negative. They became known for blending gothic and doom metal elements. Their music had a significant impact on the metal genre, paving the way for bands like Nightwish and Cradle of Filth.

Peter Steele was a pivotal figure in Type O Negative, known for his deep voice and dark humor. Loaded Radio noted that he inspired a wide range of musicians with his unique style and thematic lyrics, which often explored themes of love, loss, and existential angst. Despite his passing in 2010, Steele’s legacy continues to influence the metal community.

Type O Negative’s legacy remains strong. Fans and fellow musicians continue to celebrate their music. Distorted Sound highlighted that the emotional connection fans have with Steele makes a tribute show a potentially meaningful way to honor his memory and the band’s enduring impact on the music scene.

No official announcements have been made regarding a tribute show. Hickey’s comments indicate that discussions are ongoing and that the band members are carefully considering their options as interest in honoring Steele’s legacy continues to grow.
