The Mirror revealed that former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon has expressed interest in collaborating with Taylor Swift.
“Those that do that kind of music, like Taylor Swift, they do it very well,” Lydon said. “She deserves a go at me. Imagine that duet?”
His previous criticism of Swift took a different tone. “She’s incredibly dull,” he had stated in an earlier interview. “There’s a whole history of that kind of singer in America: the pop teenage trivia thing. What she’s grown into is too elaborate and she’s trapped by not meaning to annoy her fanbase – oh fuck off!”
His evolving perspective on pop music reflects a broader artistic philosophy and recent industry activities.
The Independent highlighted Lydon’s recent embrace of diverse musical genres. He praised Lady Gaga’s 2024 releases, including her single ‘Abracadabra’ and album ‘Mayhem.’
Lydon shared his musical philosophy: “I love all forms of music, and I adore anyone that’s got the balls to rehearse, play live, record, and then deal with the guillotine that’s called the press.”
Vinyl Me Please documented Lydon’s history of genre experimentation. His work with Public Image Ltd (PiL) successfully merged punk with reggae and electronic elements.
AXS TV reported Lydon’s stance on commercialized music. He described the current Sex Pistols iteration as ‘Walt Disney woke.’ He emphasized his preference for authentic artistic expression over market-driven decisions.
