Jennifer Aniston has said that she no longer feels women have an “expiration date” in Hollywood in 2025.
Aniston has been at the forefront of the film and television industry since making her name as part of Friends in the 1990s. Over that time, she has witnessed great change, including how women are being treated.
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, Aniston said, “The societal idea of an expiration date just doesn’t exist anymore – it’s an old ideology. We’re here and we’re more than half the population… and would any of you schmucks be here if it weren’t for us anyway?”
Aniston then shared what she believes women with life experience can bring to characters on screen, adding, “The wisdom older women have to contribute is quite extraordinary, and it’s one of the areas where we’ve seen genuine progress in the film world.”
She then said, “I’m not going to take credit for blazing anything”, before giving props to Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, and Sandra Bullock for paving the way for women in Hollywood.
The star added, “All of these women who have been here, and are still here, have been examples of what we are capable of. So if we are trailblazers, I will gladly wear that with honour.”
Elsewhere, in the same interview, Aniston described AI as “such a runaway train” and said that she is often sent deepfakes of herself by friends.
The Morning Show also said of the rise of social media and the worrying impact it has on the younger generation, “I’m sure the guys who came up with it thought it was a great idea and, yeah, congratulations on your billions, but it has taken down a huge portion of humanity.”
