Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix has publicly shared his faith journey, revealing his commitment to Christianity during a recent live performance. The moment was captured in a video shared by a fan on Instagram.
During the show, Shaddix opened up about his sobriety and spiritual transformation.
“I finally put the bottle down 13 years ago. More than 13 years ago,” Shaddix said. “And about a year after that, I finally gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Changed my life forever.”
Following the performance, the rock vocalist elaborated on his decision to speak publicly about his faith.
“I have recently been convicted to share my faith walk with the world,” he commented on the video. “I will be honest it’s been a rocky road littered with failure and sin but I continue to turn my will and my life over to the lord one day at a time. GOD KEEP DOING YOUR WORK ON ME! Praise Jesus!”
The announcement marks a significant personal revelation from the musician, who has been sober for over 13 years.
Shaddix’s sobriety journey has been a long and challenging road. Spin reported that he initially started his sobriety journey in 2005. He struggled with alcoholism for years during the height of Papa Roach’s fame in the early 2000s. He has been consistently sober since 2012.
The Papa Roach frontman has previously spoken about how sobriety transformed his personal life. Loudwire noted that Shaddix credits support groups and like-minded musicians for helping him maintain his sobriety while touring. This support has allowed him to be a better husband and father.
In February 2024, Shaddix celebrated his 12th year of sobriety, as Blabbermouth documented. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received throughout his journey. His recent public declaration of faith adds a new dimension to his recovery story, revealing the spiritual foundation that has supported his transformation.
The vocalist’s openness about his faith journey reflects a broader trend of rock musicians sharing their personal struggles and spiritual beliefs with fans. While Papa Roach has long explored themes of redemption and personal struggle in their music, this marks the first time Shaddix has explicitly discussed his Christian faith in such a public manner.
