Jonathan Cain, longtime keyboardist for Journey, has announced his plans to transition into ministry and worship music following the band\u2019s upcoming farewell tour. He revealed this in an interview on the Strang Report podcast.<\/p>\n
Cain discussed his upcoming music releases and his future career direction. He emphasized a spiritual calling that will guide his post-Journey work.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, on Jonathan Cain, Facebook, you can find a song called \u2018No One Else.\u2019 I will probably be releasing it, technically, October 25th. I think that\u2019s our release date. It\u2019ll be Jonathan Cain, no one else. It\u2019ll be all by itself and I\u2019m coming with an EP at the end of the year,\u201d Cain said. \u201cThen, of course, we go on the Journey tour in 2026 \u2013 on our farewell Journey tour. So, I\u2019ll be saying goodbye to that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The musician elaborated on his plans to focus on religious music after his time with Journey concludes.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I\u2019ll probably move into ministry and worship. I feel a calling there,\u201d he continued. \u201cThis is my fifth different musical collection of worship songs about God and the gospel. I just really enjoy this batch of songs, it\u2019s really powerful. \u2026 God moves me in that direction. So, I\u2019m going to transition into this music and stay there and continue to make waves with it and write the songs that haven\u2019t been written, and honor God and give back the blessings that he\u2019s given me. It seems like a fitting thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cain\u2019s announcement comes amid some confusion about his status with Journey. He has clarified his commitment to the band through their farewell tour.<\/p>\n
Blabbermouth reported that Cain recently shot down reports that he had already quit Journey. He stated he is fully dedicated to touring with the band over the next couple of years. The farewell tour is scheduled to extend throughout 2026-27. This gives fans ample opportunity to see the classic lineup perform before Cain\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n
The keyboardist\u2019s decision to retire from Journey is motivated by his desire to focus on faith-based music. This is a path he began exploring in 2016. Parade noted that this career transition represents a continuation of his faith-based solo work that started nearly a decade ago. Journey guitarist Neal Schon has confirmed that the band itself is not ending despite Cain\u2019s planned departure.
