Corey Taylor has clarified the current status of Stone Sour, revealing the band\u2019s indefinite hiatus in a recent interview with Talkin\u2019 Rock with Meltdown.<\/p>\n
When asked about Stone Sour\u2019s future, Taylor explained his decision to step away from the band and how he communicated this with his bandmates.<\/p>\n
\u201cStone Sour is on indefinite hiatus for right now. I went to the everybody in the band and I said this was what I was going to do. And this was actually a couple years ago. They totally got it. They totally understood it,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n
The frontman also shared what each band member has been working on during this period.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody\u2019s kind of working on their own thing. Obviously, Tuji\u2019s working with me on this band. Josh is working on his own solo thing. Chow obviously has Mudo Chows. He\u2019s got a host of other bands that he\u2019s doing and then Roy\u2019s kind of doing, you know, Roy has a litany of things that he\u2019s working on, whether it\u2019s soundtrack stuff or, you know, scoring and everything,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Taylor emphasized that this was the right time for him to focus on his solo career while maintaining his commitment to Slipknot.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, it just felt like the time for me to kind of step away from Stone Sour and really do this (solo thing), because I knew if I didn\u2019t, I wasn\u2019t going to be able to do it. Obviously Slipknot\u2019s going to be, you know, bread and butter, but it\u2019s something that I can kind of walk away from for a while and come back to. It just felt like this was the time for me to do this,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The hiatus marks a significant shift for the band, which has been inactive since 2020. Metal Injection reported that the break was prompted by internal drama and \u201cirreconcilable differences\u201d among band members. Taylor expressed that he no longer desires to work with some members of the group.<\/p>\n
Stone Sour\u2019s last album, Hydrograd, was released in 2017. No new band material has emerged since then. The extended silence has reinforced the ongoing hiatus status, leaving fans uncertain about the band\u2019s future. Taylor has found more personal fulfillment in his solo career, where he maintains full creative control without compromise. He highly praises his solo band as a group of reliable musicians. This project has become a priority alongside his continuing role as Slipknot\u2019s vocalist. The COVID-19 pandemic lockdown further delayed any potential Stone Sour activities, giving members the space to focus on solo projects and personal artistic directions.<\/p>\n
While Taylor has not completely ruled out Stone Sour reuniting in the future, he has mentioned that it could happen for special occasions such as charity events.
