You\u2019d think that someone as popular as Margot Robbie would have more box office hits under her belt besides Barbie, but the Australian star actually has way more flops to her name, and if the negative reception of the upcoming Wuthering Heights is anything to go by, then there\u2019s more on the way.<\/p>\n
While the actor has given her fair share of acclaimed performances \u2013 The Wolf of Wall Street, I, Tonya, and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood immediately spring to mind \u2013 she doesn\u2019t half pick a barrage of questionable movies to sandwich between her moments of greatness. Who knows why Robbie opts for so many movies that end up bombing at the box office, but at least they haven\u2019t exactly impacted her career.<\/p>\n
One of these movies was 2018\u2019s Terminal, which featured an incredibly odd cast, including Mike Myers, Simon Pegg, and Thomas Turgoose. From this weird mix of actors, Terminal didn\u2019t exactly look like it was going to be a hit, but Robbie didn\u2019t seem to mind. For the star, if a project appeals to her, she\u2019ll take it on, regardless of whether she thinks it will perform well or not. Now, I\u2019m all for Robbie veering away from mega-blockbusters like the painfully capitalistic Barbie, but if you\u2019re going to pick an indie film, at least pick a half-decent one to star in.<\/p>\n
When asked by TASS how she felt about the fact that Terminal had just 24% on Rotten Tomatoes, she didn\u2019t really seem to care. Most actors would probably feel a sense of shame for a project performing that badly, but Robbie took it on the chin. \u201cOoh, I haven\u2019t heard the numbers yet\u2026 I think we weren\u2019t expecting this movie to be a wide commercial success, like I said earlier, it\u2019s such a bizarre, strange indie film, and it was never designed to please the masses,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The thing is, Terminal isn\u2019t a \u201cbizarre, strange indie film\u201d in a good way \u2013 it\u2019s just a bad movie, and even with Robbie in the lead, the movie wasn\u2019t able to hit $1million at the box office. That\u2019s when you know something is desperately wrong.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I\u2019m not necessarily surprised, and I\u2019m not necessarily hurt by that because a lot of movies I really adore I see with terrible Rotten Tomatoes scores, and a lot of movies I really didn\u2019t enjoy I see get 90-something percent. That\u2019s art, it\u2019s subjective, everyone has a different opinion, and I think we need to take it with a grain of salt,\u201d Robbie continued.<\/p>\n
Clearly, Robbie is familiar with how the industry works \u2013 it\u2019s a landscape where no one is ever truly satisfied. The actor elucidated: \u201cAt the same time, it\u2019s important to know how people feel about the product you\u2019re making, and there are always lessons to be learnt. For me, this movie is strange and weird, and something that wasn\u2019t designed to be so commercially appeasing, I\u2019m not as upset about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Terminal certainly isn\u2019t one of the most glittering highlights of Robbie\u2019s filmography, but at least she went into it without dollar signs in her eyes. Sadly, I\u2019m not sure we can say the same about her latest flop, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, a cheesy, gimmick-filled movie that feels like nothing more than a cash grab. Ironically, it has lost almost $30million at the box office already.<\/p>\n
