Neal Schon recently addressed concerns about Journey\u2019s lineup and his relationship with bandmate Jonathan Cain, sharing positive updates in an interview with Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk.<\/p>\n
The guitarist spoke about the current state of his relationship with Cain, with whom he has had public disagreements in recent years. He also offered insight into the band\u2019s future plans.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything is cool. You know, we decided to take a year off of which we did, [and that] gives everybody some time to think about everything that\u2019s going on,\u201d Schon said. \u201cYou know, I\u2019ve had some great conversations with Jonathan lately and some great meetings with him for the first time in many years.\u201d<\/p>\n
Schon expressed optimism about the band\u2019s upcoming tour and their renewed working relationship.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe seem to be on the same page, which is a good sign for me,\u201d he continued. \u201cI think that it\u2019s going to be a fun, happy tour. [It\u2019s not going to be] just me standing on one side of the stage and Jon on the other\u2026 I think we\u2019re going to really come together this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
The positive tone marks a significant shift from the tensions that dominated headlines throughout 2024. Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Cain filed a lawsuit against Schon in July 2024, alleging exorbitant spending including hotel stays as high as $10,000 a night and use of private jets. Cain claimed these expenses jeopardized the band\u2019s ability to pay crew and staff.<\/p>\n
The legal dispute centered on Freedom 2020, Inc., the company that manages Journey\u2019s touring business. American Songwriter noted that both Schon and Cain own 50% of the company and serve as its only board members. This led to frequent deadlocks in business decisions that compounded their personal disagreements.<\/p>\n
The conflict had real-world consequences for the band\u2019s touring schedule. iHeart revealed that Journey canceled their planned UK and Ireland tour dates in August 2024, citing \u201ccircumstances beyond the band\u2019s control.\u201d The timing strongly suggested a connection to the legal dispute between the two members.<\/p>\n
By late summer 2024, the legal battle was resolved with the court appointing a custodian to oversee company decisions when Schon and Cain cannot agree. American Songwriter explained that this mechanism was designed to prevent future deadlocks and allow the band to continue touring and recording without constant business impasses.<\/p>\n
Schon\u2019s recent comments suggest the year-long break and subsequent conversations have helped repair the relationship beyond just the legal resolution.
