Atreyu singer Brandon Saller has revealed that the band deliberately created confusion about a potential breakup as part of their marketing strategy for their song \u201cDead.\u201d The revelation came during an interview on Sultans Of Slack.<\/p>\n

\u201cMe and Porter [Atreyu bassist Marc McKnight] kind of came up with that idea of doing that as the [\u2018Dead\u2019] rollout,\u201d Saller said. \u201cAnd we thought, okay, this is a possibility that people might think we\u2019re breaking up. But we were, like, common sense would say, \u2018They\u2019ve been a band for 27 years. They\u2019re probably not gonna break up with just a black photo and \u2018R.I.P.\u201d [But] no \u2014 it was wildfire.\u201d<\/p>\n
The strategy generated an unexpectedly intense response from fans worldwide.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople were sending us stressed out, crisis-mode DMs \u2014 worldwide,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe had a dude in Japan send us like DMs in Japanese and then translated in English. [It was, like], \u2018Please, don\u2019t let [it be true]. You can\u2019t [break up].\u2019 And we wanted to say something, but then you just can\u2019t. But it was wildfire. There was a lot that happened with that rollout that I didn\u2019t expect. But it worked. I mean, at the end of the day, it worked. People were, like, \u2018Man, it\u2019s f*cking stupid.\u2019 It\u2019s, like, \u2018Well, were you talking about it?\u2019 \u2018Yeah\u2019. \u2018Point in case.’\u201d<\/p>\n
Saller defended the controversial marketing approach by highlighting the challenges bands face in gaining attention in today\u2019s media landscape.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this day and age, it\u2019s hard to get people\u2019s attention, unfortunately, [with] a band just being, like, \u2018Hey, we have a new song,’\u201d he explained. \u201cBut if you\u2019re, like, \u2018We may or may not be breaking up,\u2019 they might listen more. And it makes sense. With a song called \u2018Dead\u2019, what are the options for promotion? There\u2019s only a few things we could have done here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The timing of this release strategically aligns with Atreyu\u2019s upcoming tour celebrating the 21st anniversary of their breakthrough 2004 album *The Curse*. Livewire Music noted that this landmark album solidified their place in metalcore history with iconic tracks like \u201cBleeding Mascara\u201d and \u201cRight Side Of The Bed.\u201d The anniversary tour kicks off November 4 in Mesa, Arizona.
