The Machine Head guitarist explained that King\u2019s constant use of sunglasses stems from an unexpected characteristic.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe wouldn\u2019t want everybody to know that, but he always wears shades because he\u2019s got like super kind eyes, you know?\u201d Demmel said.<\/p>\n
Demmel also shared how he came to join Kerry King\u2019s band after leaving Machine Head.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore I quit Machine Head, it was the summer before. They were on the Slayer\u2019s on the farewell tour comes through San Jose and I think it\u2019s the last night of that run. I asked Kerry like \u2018Hey, so what are you doing after this is done?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018I\u2019m gonna keep going and it\u2019s probably going to involve Paul and maybe Gary. I don\u2019t know yet.\u2019 And I said, \u2018Oh okay,’\u201d Demmel explained.<\/p>\n
The conversation took an interesting turn months later when Demmel announced his departure from Machine Head.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m still in Machine at this point and so fast forward three months later I announce that I\u2019m quitting. And on the same day, I got a text from Kerry saying, \u2018That\u2019s why you asked me what I was doing after.\u2019 And that\u2019s when I threw my name in his hat of like, \u2018Yeah, dude anything that you\u2019re doing, I would like to have the chance to be in.\u2019 And so he kept, \u2018Yeah, we\u2019ll see what\u2019s happening.\u2019 And he kind of hinted as time was going on,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Demmel\u2019s transition from Machine Head to working with Kerry King wasn\u2019t just a casual career move. It involved some remarkable circumstances that showcased his dedication and skill as a guitarist.<\/p>\n
Guitar World reported that after Demmel quit Machine Head in 2018 due to personal differences, he quickly stepped in to fill a sudden vacancy in Slayer when guitarist Gary Holt had to leave the tour for a family emergency. This opportunity came at a crucial time in Demmel\u2019s career. It provided him with a chance to prove himself on one of metal\u2019s biggest stages.<\/p>\n
The challenge Demmel faced was immense. Ultimate Guitar revealed that Demmel learned Slayer\u2019s entire 19-song set in just two days before flying out to Europe to perform. The quick mastery of Slayer\u2019s catalog helped Demmel make a strong impression on Kerry King. This eventually led to him becoming the second guitarist in King\u2019s new band.
