The singer recently sat down with Spin to talk about five albums she can\u2019t live without. Her third choice was Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s \u2018Renaissance: Act I,\u2019 which came out in 2022.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeyonc\u00e9 is my favorite artist of all time,\u201d Courtney explained. \u201cShe is the one artist that makes me empathize with fanatical parasocial behavior. I grew up with her!\u201d<\/p>\n
She continued, \u201cI am not blind to a bad song though, if I don\u2019t like something I\u2019m not going to listen just because I love the artist. But she just keeps getting better and better. I can confidently say this is my favorite album of hers, somehow it beat out \u2018Lemonade,\u2019 at least for now.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am so inspired by the entire concept, one long mix, referencing the people who created this type of music, a history lesson and celebration with some of the most complex vocal runs I\u2019ve ever heard, yet still hooky. I just love her so much,\u201d LaPlante further said of the record.<\/p>\n
In her other picks, Courtney listed \u2018Hounds of Love\u2019 by Kate Bush, Loathe\u2019s \u2018I Let It In and It Took Everything,\u2019 \u2018good kid, m.A.A.d city\u2019 by Kendrick Lamar, and Erykah Badu\u2019s \u2018Baduizm.\u2019<\/p>\n
In 2022, LaPlante reacted on X to Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s dance single \u2018Break My Soul\u2019 from the \u2018Renaissance: Act I,\u2019 album, per Loudwire. The song\u2019s lyrics talk about quitting a job and finding new motivation. She wrote at the time, \u201cNEW BEYONCE AHHHHHHHH.\u201d She added, \u201cI hereby quit my job as she tells me to in this song thank you for all the support but I quit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Courtney also named Beyonc\u00e9 among the artists who inspired her in a 2023 chat with Kerrang. \u201cBeyonc\u00e9 was the first artist that I realised was proud to showcase how much work and effort goes into being an artist, aside from just the talent and musicality,\u201d she said of the pop star.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople that sing her kind of music, there\u2019s so much room for them to express themselves in a way other than singing. I love how in control of each aspect of her whole brand she is \u2013 I\u2019m inspired by how obsessed she is with everything from the drum hits on her music to the colour of the lighting on her tour,\u201d she also said.<\/p>\n
