\u201cHonestly, I would love to be friends with Dave. He is the wackiest guy. He would be a blast \u2014 in my opinion, he would be a blast to hang,\u201d Hagar said. \u201cGet on a boat and go cruising around in the islands or something with that guy and some of our friends and stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Red Rocker emphasized their shared history and common ground through their time with Van Halen.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got so much in common and so much history together, if you think about it. We both spent 10 years of our lives with Van Halen \u2014 Eddie and Alex Van Halen,\u201d he continued. \u201cEddie Van Halen, right? I mean, we wrote songs with [Eddie]. There\u2019s so much that we have in common. And we\u2019re totally two different kinds of people, but that\u2019s what makes it fun. The people around us would be having more fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hagar praised Roth\u2019s dedication to performing and revealed the specific advice he shared privately.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe guy\u2019s got the balls to go out there and do it and do it for the fans. He\u2019s not doing it for money. Dave\u2019s got plenty of money, for God\u2019s sakes. Nobody in Van Halen\u2019s broke. And he\u2019s doing it \u2019cause he loves it,\u201d Hagar said. \u201cAnd he looks like he\u2019s having a good time. He\u2019s got a pretty damn good band, there ain\u2019t no question about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the smartest thing \u2014 I even told him this; I sent him a note about it when we had that little Instagram comment thing \u2014 I sent him a personal note and said, \u2018Hey, smartest thing you ever do is get them background singers,’\u201d Hagar explained. \u201cThose choruses in Van Halen are the most important part besides of Eddie\u2019s guitar playing, some of the most important parts of that music to those fans.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hagar concluded by emphasizing the importance of the vocal harmonies for fan engagement and his support for Roth.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey love singing along to those songs. And you got those guys singing it, and they sound good singing it. And I think it was a good move. If he can\u2019t do it, get somebody that can do it and just go out there and do your thing, whatever,\u201d he said. \u201cAnyway, I\u2019m all cool with Dave. I just wanna make that straight and clear.\u201d<\/p>\n
