The Beatles\u00a0have made available another rare archival track from their forthcoming\u00a0Anthology 4<\/em>\u00a0compilation, due out on November 21. The tune is identified as \u201cTake 17\u201d of a \u201csecond version\u201d of the Fab Four\u2019s classic 1968 rock tune \u201cHelter Skelter.\u201d You can check it out now at The Beatles\u2019\u00a0YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

The track begins with\u00a0Paul McCartney\u00a0giving some directions to his bandmates before the start of the song. McCartney\u2019s vocals are treated with a heavy reverb effect. On this version of \u201cHelter Skelter,\u201d Paul sings slightly different lyrics, and sounds a bit sloppy and playful in his vocal delivery, with some words mumbled and his voice cracking at times. McCartney also hoots and hollers at numerous points during the recording.<\/p>\n

At the end of the track, McCartney is heard commenting, \u201cKeep that one. Mark it fab.\u201d The actual take that was used for the released version of \u201cHelter Skelter\u201d was the 21st.<\/p>\n

A social media post announcing the rare track\u2019s premiere includes interview snippets with McCartney and Ringo Starr.<\/p>\n

\u201c[\u2018Helter Skelter\u2019] was a track we did in total madness and hysterics in the studio,\u201d Starr recalled. McCartney added, \u201cWe just tried to get it louder. Guitars: can we have them sound louder? The drums: Louder! We did it like that, because I like noise.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHelter Skelter\u201d appeared on The Beatles\u2019 self-titled 1968 double album, a.k.a. \u201cThe White Album.\u201d Interestingly, McCartney played guitar on the track, while John Lennon played bass. During the recording, the band was playing their instruments so hard that Ringo yelled out at the end of one take, \u201cI\u2019ve got blisters on my fingers!\u201d The comment is heard at the end of the version on \u201cThe White Album.\u201d<\/p>\n
