Ghost frontman Tobias Forge recently shared his thoughts on generational grievances and the future of social media. He offered a bold prediction in an interview with Billboard.
Forge drew a comparison between Millennials and Gen Z. He highlighted what he sees as the defining frustration of each generation.
“The big grievance of the Millennials is that we can’t afford to buy a house, but the Gen Z’ers’ big grievance is that social media ruined their childhood,” Forge said. “I do believe, I promise, you’re gonna see a big rebellion against this. Not now, not tomorrow, but when they’re in their 20s.”
The musician went on to emphasize the negative impact of constant connectivity on younger generations.
“Social media and connectivity in that way are gonna be so lame because it’s hindered their development,” he continued. “It’s hindered their freedom! It’s hindered so many things for them. If I can somehow be part of giving people the idea that there was a world before this s–t… and that it worked really well! We had tons of fun! It was actually amazing!”
Forge’s comments reflect a growing conversation about the effects of social media on youth development and mental health. They come at a time when Ghost continues to expand their global reach and influence.
The Swedish rock band has been experiencing significant momentum in their career. Rocket Arena reported that Ghost announced their biggest world tour to date in 2025. The tour starts in April and includes more than 55 shows across the U.S., Europe, the UK, and Mexico. The tour was officially announced on October 28, 2024. Tickets for U.S. shows went on general sale November 1, 2024.
This massive world tour follows their RE-IMPERATOUR 2023. It concluded with two sold-out shows at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Nuclear Blast noted that those performances were captured in their debut feature film RITE HERE RITE NOW. The film was accompanied by a soundtrack album. Both are now available for streaming and purchase.
Ghost continues to engage their fanbase through multiple channels. The band has been releasing a series of YouTube webisode chapters. Recent installments include Chapter 18: What A Fiasco! and further updates exploring band storylines. Ghost’s official website revealed that their recent single “Satanized” is actively promoted alongside new music videos for tracks like “Lachryma” and “Peacefield.”
The band’s typical setlist for their 2025 shows includes popular songs such as “Peacefield,” “Lachryma,” “Rats,” and “Dance Macabre.” Recent concerts have been professionally recorded for a future release. Forge’s commentary on social media and generational change adds another dimension to Ghost’s theatrical persona. The band has always explored themes of societal critique alongside their signature dark aesthetic.
