FKA Twigs will share her second album of the year this November, after announcing that a new techno album, EUSEXUA Afterglow, is on its way.
The album was originally intended to be a deluxe edition of January’s EUSEXUA, but the artist soon found herself with enough material on her hands for a full-length release. As such, she has released a new single, ‘Cheap Hotel’, from the upcoming project.
The new seven-minute music video that accompanied the single was written and directed by Jordan Hemingway and FKA Twigs. At the beginning of the clip, Twigs is discussing a failed romantic connection with a friend, insisting, “He looked cute in his pictures.” The video also features Clermont Twins.
The new collection “expands on the feelings that come after experiencing EUSEXUA, transmuting them into a soundtrack for the hours after the rave and extending that high into the afters.”
The official press release continued: “Afterglow is a record steeped in the reverence of techno, but the beats now are fractured and derelict, and playful, most importantly.”
When exploring the impact of EUSEXUA in anticipation of the Mercury Prize nomination, Far Out wrote, “FKA Twigs made us wait five years for EUSEXUA. The experimental techno-dance record is mercurial, transcendental, and overwhelmingly sensual. The club scene, yanked into the spotlight in Charli XCX’s previously Mercury-nominated Brat is underlined, bloated with endless new meanings, and becomes the scene of both ego-death and renewed self-discovery. Twigs’ party contains life and death, twittering across a starry sonic landscape both gentle and harsh.”
Twigs will soon hit the big screen after she was recently cast as the Virgin Mary in the upcoming horror film, The Carpenter’s Son, starring Nicolas Cage in the titular role. Beyond this, she will also portray Josephine Baker in an upcoming biopic by French filmmaker Maïmouna Doucouré.
