M. Shadows, lead vocalist of Avenged Sevenfold, has shared a positive health update through X (formerly Twitter).
The singer’s update follows the band’s postponement of their tour dates. The delay was announced on September 27th after M. Shadows was diagnosed with a vocal fold hematoma.
“Very positive doctor visit today. I’ll be good. Thank you to everyone that reached out. This is just part of the gig. Rescheduled dates coming soon,” M. Shadows tweeted.
His encouraging message came after the band’s earlier statement: “With a heavy heart, and regretfully, we have to announce that due to a specific condition called a vocal fold hematoma, we have made the necessary decision to push our tour to early next year. We promise to come back stronger than ever. Your tickets will still be valid for the rescheduled shows—new dates are on the way and will be announced next week.”
The vocal fold hematoma diagnosis carries significant implications for both the singer’s health and the band’s touring schedule.
Medical experts at Kerrang explained that a vocal fold hematoma occurs when a blood vessel in the vocal cord breaks and bleeds underneath the lining. This condition results in vocal impairment and typically requires several weeks of complete voice rest. A months-long rehabilitation period follows to ensure proper healing.
Vocal health challenges aren’t new for M. Shadows. Reports from 98KUPD revealed he faced a similar vocal fold hematoma in 2017. That instance required surgery after he continued performing despite the injury. The band later canceled a tour in 2018 due to related vocal cord damage.
The current treatment approach differs from his previous experience. Sources at The Buzz indicated the focus now lies on proper healing through voice rest and rehabilitation. This conservative approach aims to avoid surgical intervention.
Medical professionals recommend strict voice rest and vocal therapy with a speech-language pathologist for such injuries. Surgery remains a last resort, considered only when conservative treatment fails. The band’s decision to postpone their South American and Latin American tour dates to early 2026 reflects these recommended practices for vocal recovery.
