Anthony Kiedis Breaks Silence on Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Future After the Break

Anthony Kiedis recently opened up about Red Hot Chili Peppers’ plans for new music following the end of their Unlimited Love tour. He shared his statement on SiriusXM.

The frontman revealed that the band has begun working on new material earlier than originally planned. Creative inspiration drove this decision rather than scheduled commitments.

“We weren’t supposed to be thinking about making new music yet, according to calendars and managers, lawyers, accountants,” Kiedis said. “But every now and then, you don’t care about what you’re supposed to be doing, and you hear something in your head, and you make a call to a friend.”

The singer expressed particular enthusiasm about guitarist John Frusciante’s creative energy during this phase.

“I feel like the flame has been lit in John early on in the cycle,” he continued. “The new wet sands are out there, starting to form.”

Kiedis’s comments align with recent statements from other band members about their creative direction in 2025.

Drummer Chad Smith shared that the band planned to start writing songs in 2025 after finishing touring and taking a break in late 2024. Smith confirmed the writing process would be collaborative. Ideas would originate from riffs, drum beats, and bass lines as usual.

Bassist Flea also confirmed in mid-2025 that the band had begun writing new songs for their next album, as reports indicated. The band has no major tour dates scheduled for 2025 aside from a benefit concert appearance in January. This reflects their focus on studio work this year.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ shift toward new material follows their extensive touring cycle that supported the Unlimited Love album in 2022-2023. The band has used this hiatus to rest and refocus their creative energy on composing what will be their fourteenth studio album.

Beyond their musical endeavors, Consequence revealed that the band is seeking to sell their recorded music catalog for approximately $350 million. This adds to a previous $140 million deal for publishing rights. The band also has a documentary on their early years in production. It is expected for release in late 2025 or early 2026.
